Bass Spinner Bait Fishing

Spinner baits could be considered as the best choice for bass fishing. Although there are several other choices for bass fishing baits such as the plastic worms, top-water plugs, rattling crank-baits, jig and pig and jerkbaits or twitchbaits, but spinner baits are still the best pick due to its ease and versatility.

Just imagine how easy you can match a spinner bait with countless of fishing situation and condition. It works well in almost all types of cover and structure at any season. Say summer, autumn, winter and springtime or whatever water condition, muddy or clear, warm or cold and deep or shallow. Spinner baits can be easily be adapted and applied to weeds, brush, grass, stumps, standing timber, rock piles, rip-rap, boat docks or any other specific type of structure or hiding place.

What make them so special is that it provides limitless combination of colors, vibration, flash and shapes. They also act quietly, non-threatening and naturally. Blending the right combination that matches the fishing condition is a critical factor to the success of bass catching. If I may conclude, spinner baits are unbeatable due to their versatility, capability and flexibility which can not be offered by other baits.

Here are the elements or factors which you may consider in creating and fine tuning the right spinnerbait combination

Blade types. Three most common blade types are Willow Leaf blade, Colorado blade and the Indiana blade. The Willow leaf is the most all-around choice for clear water fishing because its shape creates sufficient flash and vibration, non-threatening, much heavier and can work at a faster speed compared to the two other types.

The Colorado blade is suitable for muddy or cold water fishing due to its capability to move a lot of water thus creates more vibration and move slower than the Willow Leaf. This makes it easier for the fish to spot the bait in poor visibility of the muddy water.

The tear shaped Indiana blade on the other hand is compromise of the Willow and Colorado blade which can produce excellent vibration, flash and moves a lot of water. This blade is suitable for warm muddy or stained water fishing.

Single or tandem blades will be among the choices. The single blade is the familiar and versatile which can be used in deep and shallow water fishing by applying various retrievals such as straight, stop and go, fluttered, helicopter and yo-yo. The tandem blade provides more flash and spin compared to the single. It is most suitable for under the surface fishing and not good for deepwater, vertical drop or slow rolling fishing.

Blade sizes are other options you can choose from. There are numerous sizes in different colors which produce various vibration and flash at any depth. In short you can change the blade to match whatever fishing condition. The common numbering system, although arbitrary for each type of blade, starts with the smallest size (#00) to the largest (#08)

Blade colors basically are available in three major basic colors: silver, gold and copper with many color modification or finishes. It is the water clarity and the condition of light which becomes the determinant of what blade color to choose.

Skirt and trailers are also useful to add color richness to your spinnerbait. But please bear in mind that the color combination should not be too contrast. Instead the skirt color should complement the trailer color.
